Mr Simon Foo began his music education on the Voice, Tuba and piano moving on subsequently to pursue the clarinet privately under the guidance of Loke Siew Khein , Mark Spuria,Vincent Goh and MaYue. When he acquired his ABRSM grade 8 in performance clarinet and saxophone and Grade 8 Theory, he went on to performed with numerous ensembles as principal clarinetist and concert master including the Singapore Youth orchestra,Molmein Wind Ensemble and Singapore Armed forces Central Band. In 1992, he was admitted the licentiate-ship of the London College of Music UK/ Thames valley university in performance. Mr Foo continued his Band Directing education in the National Institution of education, where he graduated with Distinction. He studied conducting under the late Professor Shalom Ronly Rikilis ( Conductor of the Israel Young Philharmonic orchestra) , Band Management with Professor Ho Wee Leong (NIE), Music Harmony with Dr John Sharpley (SSO Composer), and Music Analysis with Dr Eddie Chong and Music history with Dr Eugene (NIE).
During 1993-96 he has at various time represent Singapore to play the clarinet in the ASEAN Youth Symphonic Band and Orchestra as Co-Concert Master. He also performed with the WASBE International Wind Orchestra, touring in Spain under the baton of legendary maestro such as Dr Alfred Reed and Dr Frederick Fennell. Occasionally he will perform in the musical productions includes ‘Chang and Eng’ and ‘Snow Wolf Lake’. He also involved in church’s choir and orchestra activities.
He stopped performing after an accident in 2004. It was a difficult period for him to go through but his love for Music and God give him the strength now to devote his time more on Teaching.
Currently, Mr Foo teaches the Concert Band and Woodwind(Clarinet,Flute and Saxophone) program in various Primary and secondary school in Singapore and Yamaha Music School.
